Missed opportunities and second chances...
The Miami trip is coming up…the more I think about it, the more nostalgic I find myself.
My first so-called invite to a group function with the ‘insane lot’ was way back in 2001. Deepti and Amol (notice it’s not Amol and Deepti) were my classmates during my Engineering days at COEP. We were project partners in our final yr and this meant that we spent a lot of time together. Our numerous field visits to 'Burger King' on east street, to discuss the intricacies of the "group project" proved to be crucial. Numerous decisions were made out here. Amol gave a unanimous verdict in favor of the King Burger, Deepti concluded she needs to have 1/8th of a Veg burger (small) and I decided Chicken Salami Roll (two) suite my particular needs for the project.
As a result of this quality time spending, I got to know them better and soon found myself spending absurd amounts of time with the two of them. I had loads of friends…but suddenly everyone else took a back seat.
One particular day, being her classmate/project partner I received an invite to Deepti’s party…. she, along with Kapil and Abhijeet were throwing a party. I wasn’t very keen to go coz I wasn’t exactly sure what I’d do there. Plus, I didn’t even know the other two who were teaming up to organize the whole thing then.
I knew my absence wouldn’t be that big a deal but out of formality I had to go.
I found myself totally out of place…I didn’t know anyone…plus the fact that the in-house lighting was at it’s bare minimum didn’t help much. I couldn’t see who I was being introduced to and kept reintroducing myself again and again and again…. what a looser.
I felt so out of place in the first half hour itself that I quietly pushed off. Yes, I just slipped out and went home…. didn’t even say bye to the hostess. So much for proper etiquette…hehehe. I know it was a mean thing to do…Yes, I’m a bad person.
Some things in life are meant to be. It’s like in the movies…our main lead bumps into someone and moves on but this someone, 127 frames down the line, happens to be the only person who could save the world and has to be “re-bumped” into our hero for sake of a happy ending.
16 individuals, who form the ‘insane lot’ and encompass my small world today, were present at that party. I don’t recall meeting any of them at that party…. but every single one was there. Thank God for second chances.
Makes me smile…I mean …I don’t know…it’s like you have no control over stuff that happens…you might choose to pass off an opportunity…but if it’s meant to be…then it’s meant to be…period. It’ll come back and smack u in the face. So what do you do? I don’t know…you could perhaps drive yourself crazy thinking about missed opportunities…or hope to do it my way… snug into your Hawaii shorts, slap on some sun tan, sip some orange juice and lie in the sun, pool side…waiting for destiny to pick you up on its way back…you could also grab your Play Station-II coz my mom recommends exercising…What? U have to start somewhere…so why not start with your fingers and eventually get around to exercising the entire body…by…lets say year 2018.
